If your fitted wardrobes are structurally sound but look dated, tearing them out is a waste of money and time. In most bedrooms the better answer is replacement wardrobe doors: new made-to-measure fronts on the wardrobe you already have.
When replacing just the doors makes sense
- The carcases are solid. No swollen chipboard, no sagging shelves, and the hinges still hold.
- The layout works. You are happy with where the rails, shelves and drawers are.
- Only the look has dated. Old mirror sliders, yellowed white gloss or a style that no longer suits the room.
If the carcases are damaged, or you want a different layout inside, a new fitted wardrobe is the better buy.
Why the doors need to be made to measure
Fitted wardrobes are built to the room, so their openings rarely match the stock door sizes sold by IKEA or B&Q. A made-to-measure door is cut to the exact width and height of each opening, to the millimetre, so the gaps line up and the doors close properly.
How to measure your wardrobe doors
- Measure the height and width of each existing door in millimetres, not the opening around it.
- Measure every door separately. In older wardrobes, doors that look the same are often a few millimetres apart.
- Note how many hinges each door has and roughly where they sit, so the new doors can be drilled to suit.
If you would rather not measure, we can measure up and fit the doors for you.
Choosing a style
The range runs to 76 door designs, from plain and lined shaker to slatted, handle-less, mock in-frame and arched doors, in a wide choice of matt, woodgrain and painted-look finishes. You can order a sample door for £15 to see the finish in your own bedroom before committing.
